I know we need to use adjectives to describe things. Most of the time one or two will do. but the explosion of adjectives to describe the sound of something or the tone of a piece of gear has gotten out of control. I’m not sure when this happened, but it happened.
I was reading this Guitar Player article on cables and the guy used four adjectives to describe the sound of a cable. Not one of them was “good” or “bad”. I don’t know what a “smokey” sounding cable is. I didn’t even know a cable could make a sound. I thought they just carried the sound.
Here is a list in no particular order of some of my favorites. (even if I don’t know what they mean)
Chewy (yum)
Gristly (Yuck)
Ice Pick(basic instinct)
Woody (the guitar is made of wood)
Blooming(is it a flower or a guitar)
It sounds like wine tasting not music. Can’t we just say it sounds good, bad, dark, bright, or outright crappy and be done with it.
