Relic guitars.

Ahh the feeling of a new guitar. It shines, is sparkles, you’re almost afraid to play it. You baby it and keep it in it’s case until one day, THWAP, you ding your guitar. It happens, no matter how careful you are, it will get dinged. You continue to play it but you are less careful, it gets more dings and so on.

That is the natural progression for most guitars. Sometime in the 90’s, people (who may or may not play their guitars a lot) got the idea that a purposely used and dinged up guitar would be cool. Enter the relic. Now you can buy a brand new guitar that looks like it has been played for 20 years. But why?

Some will say it’s a way for the common man to own a guitar that has that vintage guitar feel without the price tag. Others say that relics are for posers who just want to look like they play the hell out of their guitar. Whatever your take is on it, there are definitely some good relics and a whole lot of bad ones. So if you’re gonna relic you’re guitar, please don’t do this.
