Rock and Roll does not take a vacation

Rock and Roll,Guitars, and Life all rolled up into a blog

When I’m 64.

Ok… I know the title of the blog is “Rock and Roll does not take a vacation” but that doesn’t mean the blogger doesn’t take one. I went to Disneyland with my family on Thursday and we had a great time. While we were wandering through New Orleans Square, we stumbled upon an old jazz guitar player. He was strumming away as cool as can be. I watched for a minute but had to keep moving as we have a 5 year old who was eager to get on some more rides.

I thought about this guy on the way home. I wondered what he had done musically before this. I wondered whether he gigged regularly. Was Disneyland his only gig. The reason for my pondering this was mainly because of his age. He has to be well into his sixties.

I think it’s great that this guy is out there, doing it for the love. Let’s face it, nobody is paying attention as they pass by on their way to the Haunted Mansion. I really wish I could have given him a little more of my time. I wish I could have had asked a few questions. I really think this guy deserves recognition if for nothing else, because he is still out there doing it. In the end I also wonder, will I still be playing guitar when I’m sixty four? Will there be a venue for me? I’m sure it won’t be Disneyland.
