What is old is new again

After nearly 20 years away from the Charvel/Jackson guitar company, Grover Jackson has reappeared to bring us the best cutting edge instruments for 2008…..or is it 1983.
I’m not taking shots here. I love Charvel/Jackson guitars. I think it’s great that the old stuff is coming back. The souped up superstrats. The crazy paint jobs. The revolutionary shapes of the Kelly, Rhoades V, and Star. I am in awe of these instruments.
I wonder who the market is for these. Is it a 40+ year old guitarist trying to relive the old days? Is it a 20 year old kid who wants to get his hands on something that existed before he was even a twinkle in mom and dad’s eye? I don’t know. Maybe they’re hoping to cash in on the collector status some of the old pieces have attained. I’m not sure what an original Charvel from 1983 goes for these days but the prices for some of the new(old) suff they are making rivals that of the best PRS or Gibson’s out there.
I love seeing this stuff out there again but I wonder if will ever get to use one on stage. Given the choices, I might opt to spend that kind of cash somewhere else. I guess I’ve abandoned the old school hair metal days but someone, somewhere, with the cash and the will to rock will buy one of these beauties.
